Fair use
Fair use.
How Seam may be used. This policy forms part of our terms of use. Last updated 15 October 2026.
Use it the way a person would
Do not crawl, scrape or script the site, or call its systems from outside our own pages. Do not download a source, or a large part of one, by any route, except through the connectors, integrations, exports and feeds we provide, within their allowances. This includes doing it slowly, a piece at a time. Where we offer feeds for machines to read, use those.
Do not work round the limits
The free plan and each plan’s monthly allowances are how Seam is paid for. Do not bypass them with extra sign-ups, shared accounts, cleared cookies or any other workaround.
The pricing page shows the allowances, and the platform shows how much you have left. Beyond those, we apply limits to protect the service. We do not publish these limits. Normal use will never meet them.
If a company uses most of an allowance early in the month, we may run that tool with lighter processing for the rest of the month. It still works, and it returns to normal on the first of the next month.
One account, one company
We sell Seam per company, so you open an account with a company email address. Free webmail addresses cannot open an account or join one. On a paid plan you can add everyone on your company’s email domain at no extra cost, so there is never a reason to share a sign-in. Do not pass results to people outside your company to avoid paying for access.
The account stays with the company its first profile was built for. If your company changes (a new name, a new website, the wrong site entered), you can switch the account yourself once in any twelve months. One subscription cannot be moved between companies to brief several of them; each needs its own.
On a Portfolio plan you may share results with the companies in your portfolio, but not beyond it.
Records that name people
Some of our sources name people doing their public jobs. That information was published so that government can be scrutinised. That is the only purpose it may be used for here.
Do not use it to build marketing lists, profile individuals, send unsolicited approaches, or combine it with other data to identify or track a person.
You may write to someone in their official role about public business, including with Seam’s own letter tool. Marketing, mass mailings, repeated unwanted messages and approaching someone as a private individual are not allowed. We enforce this rule firmly.
Leave the machinery alone
Do not probe or test the site’s security, try to reach data that is not yours, interfere with anyone else’s use of the site, or try to use paid features without paying. Do not copy the site’s code, take it apart, or feed it requests in bulk to work out how it works.
If you find a security problem, please tell us at [email protected] before telling anyone else. We will thank you. We will not take action against you for finding it.
If the rules are broken
Usually we will slow access down and contact you to ask what is happening. Most of the time there is an innocent explanation. If it is not innocent, or it continues after we have asked, we will suspend the account. In serious cases, such as bulk extraction or misuse of data about named people, we will close the account without a refund. We may also take further action.
Need more than this allows?
Researchers, companies and developers sometimes need whole datasets or our data inside their own systems. Email [email protected], tell us what you need and why. We will quote for a bulk or API licence. Academic and public-interest research is often free.
